Frequently Asked Questions
What is Save our Water?
We are a non-partisan, citizen-run organization focused on increasing citizen engagement in local governments around the nation.
What is the goal of Save our Water?
We are committed to bring awareness of water safety to the citizens of our nation. We mainly focus on informing people about large bottling companies trying to move into our communities. We are here to stop companies from making millions on our local water while people in our own communities are denied water.
What are we doing?
Save our Water makes its mark by holding community meetings to talk about what is happening to our water. We also run social media pages on Facebook and Twitter that all members of the public can see. By making strong appearances at legislative meetings we can help make decisions and laws to benefit our communities.
How did we start?
Save our Water is an organization that was created by the founders of the Bloomfield Citizens Collaborative to spread the message of one town throughout the nation. The Bloomfield Citizens came together in 2015 after it was discovered that Niagara bottling companies was attempting to open a bottling plant in Bloomfield, Connecticut. The group of dedicated citizens came together to express their concerns for water safety and unfair water usage by the company. After the small group became recognized by the New York Times and National Public Radio they realized there was a need for a larger organization that could deal with public water issues on a national scale. That Idea gave birth to the Save our Water Initiative.

Niagara Wants To Come To Bloomfield:
Niagara is a bottled water company. They sell different beverages including purified bottled water, sparkling water, vitamin enhanced waters, and sport drinks. They’ve been around since 1963 and started out in California. Niagara says that they give high quality bottled water at a cheap price. Currently, Niagara is one of the largest family owned and operated bottled water companies in the U.S. Since Niagara is a bottled water company, they’re contributing to ruining the environment. Plastic water bottles take over
1,000 years to biodegrade, it takes 1.5 million barrels
of oil every year to make water bottles in the U.S.
and they waste resources.
Now Niagara wants another water plant (they already have 19) in Bloomfield, CT.
The issues with having Niagara come to Bloomfield is that they’ll have access to
1.8 million gallons of water every day. They’ll be operating 24/7 363 days a year.
Since they will have 4 lines in Bloomfield, they will be putting out about
10,560,000 plastic water bottles every day.
A lot of people are mad about the fact that there’s a bottled water company in
their own town. The Metropolitan District Commission, (MDC) has 77.1 million
gallons of water available to them every day. People in Bloomfield are literally
getting mad over nothing because Niagara is only taking 1.8 million gallons of
that water from the MDC.
